A million ideas. One is the right one
I am Francifelly Bencosme, a product designer in Santo Domingo. This is my portfolio: one page you travel through, star by star. Scroll down and enjoy.

Seven projects. Six had a client, one didn’t. What each one had to solve, and what came of it.

Four times the obviousanswer was wrong
The easy answer would have been enough. It wasn’t. Here is what I did instead, and what came out of it.

What I do
Four ways thisusually starts
Most work starts as one of these four. Each one names a project on this page, so you can go and look before you write.
- You need a product from zero.
- From the first question to the shipped screen: field research, service design, UX, interface, and staying through the build. Reportero, six months end to end. The city app, three.
- You have a product that stopped working.
- Research with real users, a redesign, and a design system so it stops drifting once I am gone. The lab’s site: citizen turnout tripled after the relaunch.
- Your brand and your product say different things.
- Brand identity, voice and visual system, so both say the same thing to the same person. I created the LID mark and co-created the one OGTIC still uses.
- Nobody has to use it.
- Public services, industry portals, anything a visitor can simply close. Nobody has to use them, and that is what makes them hard. SEDECINE: one door for an entire film industry.
How do you work? How do you work?
The method
First I ask.Everything else after
Five stops, always in the same order. The first is the one that takes the longest: if that one goes wrong, the other four save nothing.
- AskThe uncomfortable question.
- FrameThe real problem, not the brief’s.
- CutOnly what matters.
- TestWith real people, early.
- ShipUntil it works.

The person
Short sentences.Long story
Who I am, what I write, and who will vouch for it. In that order, in three short stops.
My name is Francifelly Bencosme. Everyone calls me Fran. I live in Santo Domingo. I studied multimedia at ITLA, where I learned that creativity is a discipline before it is a talent. I started working in 2008.
At Theorem I spent four years on technologies and clients: Amazon, Celtra. The people there did not accept “good enough”. That is where my standards were set, and where design and code became the same seat.
I have worked with startups, where a product is born, breaks and becomes something else in a season. That taught me to treat change as the material, not the accident.
My years with the state put me in front of people. Real problems. A form that has to work on a Tuesday, for someone who never chose it. There a screen stops being a design and becomes someone’s day.
Now I design product at Banco BHD and run Redviver, my own studio. What stayed with me from all of it: every idea is a door. The ones that fall teach the next one. And I would rather find a new horizon than defend a familiar one. So I go after the problem behind the brief, and I stay until someone uses the thing.

Last entry
- Do you work outside the Dominican Republic?
- Yes. What I have built is used in more than a dozen countries. Remote is the norm, not the exception.
- Do you only design, or do you stay to the end?
- I stay. A design is not delivered when the file is approved: it is delivered when someone uses it and gets what they came for.
- What do you need from me to start?
- The problem as you see it, and access to whoever lives with it. Not a spec.
- What kind of projects do you take?
- The ones where UX, product and brand are one thing and not three briefs. Above all, the ones nobody is obliged to use.
- What does it cost?
- No rate card. You get a number after the first conversation and before anything starts.
- How long does it take?
- It depends, and I would rather say so than give a number I have to take back. The city app was three months; the reporting one, six.
